I designed the Cook Cottage as a 2-bedroom, 1-bath cottage floor plan with just 772 square feet of smart, usable space. This little cabin started as a challenge to myself – how small can you go before it stops feeling like a real home? Turns out, 772 square feet is more than enough when every inch has a purpose.
Step inside and the vaulted living area opens up above you, making the main floor feel twice its size. The open layout flows from the kitchen straight through to the living space with no wasted hallways or dead corners. A 9-foot ceiling in the bedroom gives the private space a comfortable, grounded feel. Then there is the loft – reached by a spiral staircase that tucks neatly against the wall. Up top you get a flexible space perfect for a guest bed, reading nook, or home office with a view down to the living room below.
The Cook Cottage sits on a compact 26-foot-4-inch by 29-foot footprint, which means it fits on just about any small lot you can find. No garage to worry about – this plan is built for simplicity. A front stoop keeps the entry clean and covered. It is an ideal build for a weekend retreat, guest house, rental cabin, or a permanent home for anyone ready to live with less and enjoy it more.
Plans are available starting at $1,495. If you like this style, take a look at the Nantahala Cottage, the Black Mountain Cottage, and the Fish Camp Cabin.

Builder Insight
I designed the Cook Cottage the way I approach every plan — starting with how a family actually lives in a home, not with the exterior style. Open flow where it matters, private space where it's needed, and no wasted square footage. That's 25 years of building experience in every dimension.
