The Cheaha Mountain Cottage is a 3-bedroom, 2-bath craftsman cottage that puts 1,720 square feet of living on a sloping lot in a way that makes the terrain work for you instead of against you. I designed this plan for mountain and lake lots where the view is downhill and you want every room to take advantage of it.
The layout flips the convention by putting 1,113 square feet of primary living on the lower level, where the dining room and family room open to the space above with dramatic double-height ceilings. The main entry at 607 square feet sits on the upper level with bedrooms and a foyer loft that overlooks the living space below. Nine-foot ceilings and the open connection between floors make this compact home feel remarkably spacious. Dedicated lake storage keeps your gear organized and out of the way.
Outside, a front porch greets you on arrival, an upper porch extends the master suite outdoors, and a lower patio gives you ground-level access to the yard. At 48 feet 10 inches wide by 42 feet 8 inches deep with no garage, this cottage fits sloping lake and mountain lots where most plans need expensive site work just to get started. It is a smart, compact design that lives much bigger than its numbers suggest.
The Cheaha Mountain Cottage plan is available for $1,495. Also explore Autumn Place, Acadia Mountain Cottage, Foothill’s Cottage, and Mountain Moss Cabin.

Builder Insight
I designed the Cheaha Mountain Cottage the way I approach every plan — starting with how a family actually lives in a home, not with the exterior style. Open flow where it matters, private space where it's needed, and no wasted square footage. That's 25 years of building experience in every dimension.
